Trend to Inspire – Color Blocking

June 2nd, 2011 by alex | 1 Comment | Filed in Color Color Color, Outfit Inspiration

One of my favorite fashion trends that I have seen in magazines and around the blogosphere this season is Color Blocking.  Basically this means taking two bold and unrelated colors and mixing them together to create an outfit statement.  While the models in the above picture are definitely taking the trend to the extreme, I have seen many fashion and style bloggers pull off this trend in very wearable ways.

When done right color blocking can be a fun way to liven up an everyday outfit, while using pieces you probably already have in your closet – but just never thought of putting together.  Below I have complied a few of my favorite color blocked outfits that I found around Pinterest.  I hope I have inspired you to give this look a try at home!  Check out my full Pinterest board for more inspiration.  Tip – if you are new to the art of color blocking I would suggest doing a bright piece (like a skirt) and pairing it with a neutral color top and then add in the contrast color with bright-hued accessories – voila – instant color block!

Pantone Color Guide: Fall 2011

June 1st, 2011 by alex | 4 Comments | Filed in Color Color Color

After yesterday’s post about our Back to School video here, I have had some fall thoughts on the mind.  Even though these 90 degree temperatures would indicate that clearly we are on the brink of summer, I thought I would interrupt our regularly scheduled warm weather posting to look forward to Fall.

Below is the color forecast for Fall 2011 from Pantone.  As you can see some of our favorites (ahem, Honeysuckle) will be moving forward into Fall, and some other hues are just darker interpretations of some Spring color picks.

One of my favorite things about these color profiles are the drawings that Pantone publishes on their site by top fashion designers.  If they ever compiled these into a coffee table book I would totally buy it!

I suppose we will just have to wait to see how all of the designers and retailers incorporate this color direction into their collections and offerings come fall.  You can hop on over to our website to see how RIU is bringing in some of these fun shades into their new Back To School/Fall prints here.

What color are you most excited to see for the Fall season?  Discuss away in the comments!

Inspiration: Spring in Bloom

February 23rd, 2010 by alex | No Comments | Filed in Outfit Inspiration

The Inspiration:  Bright Bloom City Tote

In the spirit of yesterday’s spring break post I decided to take inspiration from one of our new prints for Spring 2010, Bright Bloom.  The colors in this design are just too fun and scream Spring!  For today’s outfit I decided to keep the clothing rather neutral and to express the shades of color in accessories.  Really accessories are where you can have the most fun with your outfits anyway, right?  Look below to see how I incorporated all of the different colors to create a fun, easy spring-like look.  Also, just HOW cute are those sandals?  So cute.  That’s all for now, check back next next week for another inspiring post.
